Robotic Duct Sealing

What is Robotic Duct Sealing?

ACIA offers duct sealing for all types of duct work including fiberglass duct board, sheet metal, and internally insulated sheet metal duct with Carlisle RE-500 and RS-100. Traditionally we were only able to seal very large ducts through a manual spraying process. The ISAAC HVAC Robotic System is our answer to cleaning and sealing small and inaccessible duct work with ease. Sealing your ducts with ISAAC can help improve indoor air quality and decrease heating and cooling costs without significant interruption to building occupants.

Read More About ISAAC HVAC Robotic System

The ISAAC HVAC Robotic System is capable of hard-to-reach remediation that would otherwise result in much more costly renovations. It is a robotic vehicle integrated with a digital video recorder that is specifically designed to clean, coat, and seal duct work of all types. The remotely operated vehicle is equipped with an airless spray attachment that allows the duct work to be sealed or fiberglass insulation to be encapsulated. Once deployed, the ISAAC HVAC Robotic System is controlled remotely and progress is monitored on the LCD display using the live video feed. Upon reaching an area in need of remediation, ISAAC gets to work sealing leaks or coating damaged insulation with its airless sprayer. The attachments are capable of 360-degree rotation, ensuring that every inch of duct work that requires attention is treated properly.

Why use the ISAAC system? ISAAC offers three benefits to commercial buildings: improved air quality, greater energy efficiency, and easier, less costly full system inspection. The energy efficiency of an HVAC system is contingent upon it remaining free of leaks and debris. According to the Department of Energy, the typical duct system loses 25 to 40 percent of its energy output due to improper sealing. The ISAAC HVAC Robotic System helps to mitigate energy loss by fully cleaning and properly sealing your duct work, resulting in increased airflow and reduced operational costs. It can also dramatically improve your building’s indoor air quality, purging your system of long-unnoticed particulate. Moreover, the sealants and encapsulants developed by Carlisle HVAC products are anti-microbial, meaning they do not provide a food source for bacteria.

ACIA is a Carlisle Authorized Applicator for both RE-500 and RS-100. We have multiple factory trained applicators on staff who know who to get the job done properly. We can tackle any job big or small with the ability to seal ducts as low as 4″ in height up to 40″ x 40″ in just one pass. Feel free to contact us to learn how much energy you can save by having your duct work sealed with Carlisle HVAC products.

Main Reasons for Duct Sealing

Delaminating Fiberglass

Delaminating Fiberglass Insulation

When black “specs” begin to blow out of supply diffusers, it’s a sign that your internal duct lining is failing. This is a common among older buildings, but it is a problem that can be fixed. Cleaning alone will not fix this issue, and if improperly cleaned, the problem can worsen. We use a unique air cleaning method to remove all of the lose debris from the duct and then proceed to encapsulate the ductwork with a water based, VOC free coating.

Locations where ducts leak

Duct Leakage

Air distribution systems commonly experience leakage rates of 20% to 30% in typical residential and commercial building; even in new construction. Poorly sealed or older duct systems can have leakage rates exceeding 40%, leading to significant energy losses. Proper sealing air loss can reduce leakage to 5% or less.

Microbial Growth Inside Duct

Microbial Contamination

Microbial contamination in air ducts occurs when mold, bacteria, and fungi grow inside HVAC systems due to moisture, dust, and organic debris buildup. In many cases, the microbial contamination can be properly cleaned/removed from the system and followed up with an EPA registered coating to encapsulate the interior duct surfaces.
